Romans 8:26 – We are not aware, what we should pray

Now, similarly, the spirit also is aiding our infirmity, for what we should be praying for, to accord with what must be, we are not aware, but the spirit itself is pleading for us with inarticulate groanings

Believers groan, bodily speaking, under the corruptibility just like the rest of creation. But in that weakness we know of a solid expectation. And there’s something more. We also experience weakness in our inability to pray. We don’t know “what must be”. We can (and may!) make all our wishes known to God. But that is quite different from asking Him if He also wants to fulfill those wishes. For do our desires agree with God’s council? God’s way is always the best, but is that also in line with what we want? We do not know that. Fortunately, we don’t need to know that either!

For while we do not know what and for what we should pray in all kinds of circumstances, in that weakness there is the Spirit of God that comes to our aid. We don’t feel it, but we hear it! Because He speaks. It is his word that pleads in our favour!
