Ephesians 6:11 – To stand up to 

Put on the panoply of God, to enable you to stand up to the stratagems of the Adversary…

This section on the armor is known to many. However, we must remember that this passage does not stand alone; it can only be understood in conjunction with the entire letter. Paul has written extensively about Christ’s place “Up over every sovereignty an authority and power” and that of the believers in Him. Because: his position is our position.

What is assumed in this section on armor is that we also take this position in practice. That we stand on our allotment. Which guarantees a fight. Because we are rivals to the sovereignties and powers that still rule the world behind the scenes. Because we are taking over their duties in the coming eons. With Christ at our head we are made to be rulers “among the celestials”. No power which can undo that. What we are dealing with, however, are “the stratagems of the adversary” or literally “the methods of the diabolos” (= through-one-thrower). In order to stand against that, we must put on the entire armor of GOD. This fight is defensive. Providing resistance to be standing.
