Ephesians 1:9 – The secret of his will

…making known to us the secret of His will in accord with His delight, which He purposed in Him to have an administration of the complement of the eras, to head up all in the Christ…

Secrets or hidden matters play a major role in Paul’s letters. In 3:3 he writes that the secret has been revealed to him by revelation. In the previous eons one knew nothing about this (3:9). And in earlier generations it was unknown (3:6). But now, it has been made known through Paul.

Notice that Paul is not speaking here about the declaration of God’s will, but about the secrets of God’s will. God’s will is (:10) to summarize all creation under one Head, that is “the Christ”. But the secret of God’s will is that he shares this position with a company that is “in him” (:11). “The Christ”, which is connected as head and body. An inseparable unity.

The secrets revealed to Paul speak of the unimaginable place of the company that God calls out in our day. She is not part of the chosen Israel. No her position is still infinitely higher! She is part of the chosen Christ, seated at God’s right hand in the heavens!
