1 Timothy 2:13 – Adam first, thereafter Eve

For Adam was first molded, thereafter Eve.

We would do well to remember that Paul does not base his view on the role and position of men and women on customs or the culture of the time. His argumentation is based on creation and therefore goes back to “the beginning”. Who could know us better than the One who formed us? He formed man and woman, each with a specific talent and associated abilities and limitations. Adam was formed first while Eve was formed to help Adam in his task (1 Cor. 11:9; 2:18).

That Paul appeals to creation is much more than just a historical fact. The order in creation is also expressed in natural nature. The masculine is designed to lead and rule (rule > lord). The masculine is also physically more powerful and tougher, while the feminine is softer and also physically wired to nurture and care. In this regard she is undeniably much better and more suitable than the man. Man and woman are equal, but certainly not the same. Don’t try to make a man into a woman and a woman into a man. For God created man, male and female He created them (Gen.1:27).
