1 Corinthians 15:13,14 – for naught…

08-01-2020 - Posted by Andre Piet

Now if there is no resurrection of the dead, neither has Christ been roused. Now if Christ has not been roused, for naught, consequently, is our heralding and for naught is your faith.

Even if the denial of the resurrection of the dead were justified, then of course that also means that Christ who died and was buried cannot have been raised. Didn’t the Corinthians realize that? But then they also did not realize that what Paul had proclaimed in Corinth is completely meaningless. And that, of course, also applies to the belief that they had attached to it. In short, by denying the resurrection of the dead, they sawed through the branch on which they themselves sat!

You can also reverse Paul’s statement. For if the herald message is for naught when Christ is not resurrected, it means that the true content of the message is therefore the roused and resurrected Christ! Realize what that means. The content of the message is not a philosophy or religious rite. Nor is it a moral doctrine about how man should live. Or a political program to improve the world. No, the message is a historical fact: Christ was raised from the dead!
