1 Corinthians 12:7,8 – Expedient

Now to each one is being given the manifestation of the spirit with a view to expedience. For to one indeed, through the spirit, is being given the word of wisdom, yet to another the word of knowledge, according to the same spirit.

The one spirit of GOD manifests itself in a variety of grace effects, services, and operations. He does this to every member of the ecclesia. Also through multiple grace effects, services and operations. Possibly more, but never less. Because everyone is assigned.

The manifestation of GOD’s spirit always serves the purpose for others as the underlying goal. As Paul emphasized earlier (6:12) and this utility was further described (10:23). Useful is that which builds up the other person. This is how GOD’s spirit manifests itself and we also recognize those who let themselves be led by that spirit.

The first two examples that Paul gives with “a view to expedience” are a word of wisdom and a word of knowledge. Remember that at the time Paul wrote this letter, GOD’s word was not yet completed (Col. 1:25). The formation of the ‘biblia’, GODS library was still going on. Much wisdom and knowledge had yet to be revealed and recorded. All work by GODS spirit!
