Galatians 2:2 – Take it or leave it.

… Now I went up in accord with a revelation, and submitted to them the evangel which I am heralding among the nations.

Paul went with Barnabas to Jerusalem and purposely took Titus, the believing but uncircumcised Greek. Paul did not go to Jerusalem because he was summoned, but on the basis of revelation (> apocalypse). Where, when and how, we do not read, but one thing is certain: the Evangel that Paul proclaimed had been made known to him by revelation (1:12). Wouldn’t that fact alone have been enough for Paul to go to Jerusalem and present it there?

We should therefore certainly not construe this ‘presentation’ of the Evangel as a request for advice. Paul did not question his Evangel, nor did he ask for approval. What Paul did was communicate what had been made known to him by revelation. Now that the Gospel he was proclaiming among the nations met with so much opposition, he had no choice but to aim high. Not because he was out for discord, but because the subject was so fundamental to him that there should be no doubt or misunderstanding about it. That is why he presented his Evangel in Jerusalem. Take it, or leave it.
