1 Corinthians 15:38 – God is giving it a body

Yet God is giving it a body according as He wills, and to each of the seeds its own body.

Paul is busy answering the question of how the dead can be raised. Paul doesn’t think that question is evidence of intelligence. Because being dead is not a hindrance to being raised, but rather a condition. He gives the example of sowing as an illustration. Seed must first die (disappear) in order to produce new life. But pay attention to the great contrast between a seed on one hand that is buried and on the other hand about how GOD subsequently gives it a “body”. What is buried in the earth is something completely different from what emerges from the earth over time. It doesn’t look like it!

And yet … that “body”, or the plant, is indeed the continuation of that seed. But: completely transformed. This is such a complex and ingenious miracle that even the most powerful computer is not able to approach imitation. And to think that GOD gives “each of the seeds its own body.” An orange seed produces an orange tree. What emerges from the earth is no less varied than what was once ‘buried’!
