1Corinthians 2:6,7 – Wisdom for adults
20-11-2018 - Posted by Andre PietYet wisdom are we speaking among the mature, yet a wisdom not of this eon, neither of the chief men of this eon, who are being discarded, but we are speaking God’s wisdom in a secret, wisdom which has been concealed…
In Corinth Paul came with “the stupidity of the heralding of the cross”. At least, in the experience of the world. But for those who know better, it was indeed wisdom. Not of this eon, but GOD’s wisdom. Later we will see that Paul regarded the Corinthians as those who still needed ‘milk’ (3:1,2). With ‘milk’ he refers to elementary knowledge, the ABC of GOD’s words (Hebr. 5:12).
GOD’s wisdom for adults that is further education. Paul calls this “solid food” (3:2). He wanted to share that with the Corinthians but they were not ready for it yet. Such solid food is not easy to swallow like milk. It has to be chewed on.
In the Hebrews letter, solid food refers to education that is hidden in the Hebrew Bible. For instance the typology which is hidden in someone like Melchizedek (Heb. 5:10,11). Such knowledge is not easily visible. It is hidden under the surface. It needs to be researched. Searched for under the surface. For it is “God’s wisdom in a secret which has been concealed”.
