1Corinthians 1:18,19 – perishing

The word of the cross is stupidity for those who are perishing. That “perishing” does not speak of the future; it is present time. It concerns those who deem the word of the cross stupidity. God nullifies their wisdom: with all their wisdom, they are nowhere!
It is remarkable that Paul quotes from Isaiah 29:14 where there are wise and prudent ones of “this people” namely Israel. In the first place, It is the ‘wise’ of Israel who are denounced. The people to whom God had given his words and which they were supposed to steward. But it turned out that when the Messiah came who was promised in the Scriptures, he was first rejected by the wise of Israel. The theologians did not understand!
God hides his word for ‘wise and prudent’ but reveals it to children (Mat. 11:25). He has a good time displaying the boasting of humans!
