the Deity of Christ

Col.1:19…Christ, for in Him the entire complement of the Deity is dwelling bodily…
Col.2:9
The profession of ‘the Deity of Christ’ is regarded in Christianity as the touchstone of orthodoxy. With this expression one indicates to believe that Christ is God, Himself. However, I know of only one text in the entire Bible where the words ‘Deity’ and ‘Christ’ occur in one text, namely, in the above mentioned Colossians 2:9. But, to be precise, this verse does not teach the Deity of Christ.
The fullness of the Deity delights to dwell in Christ – which expressly shows that “the Deity” and “Christ” are not identical. Christ died. Did the Deity die? Christ was dead, for three days. Was the Deity dead for three days? Christ was resurrected “by the glory of the Father” (Rom.6:4). Would He not have been resurrected by the Father, then He would still be dead. Is the Deity dependent?
The simple, Biblical truth is that there is “one God” and His Son is “the Man, Christ Jesus” (1Tim.2:5). He is not the Deity, but the fullness of Deity delights to dwell in Him. In that way, I believe in the Deity of Christ. For so it is written.
