Romans 12:2 – Testing the will of God
30-11-2021 - Posted by HansAnd not to be configured to this eon, but to be transformed by the renewing of your mind, for you to be testing what is the will of God, good and well pleasing and perfect.
The alternative of “becoming configured to this eon” is to undergo a metamorphosis “in the renewing of your mind.” Such a metamorphosis is a total and substantial change from within. It starts with thinking differently, but the result affects our entire existence. We become a different person because of it. Not overnight, as it is an ongoing process that keeps pace with “the renewal of the mind”.
The result is that we test the will of God, which is good, well pleasing, and perfect. The word for ’testing’ denotes: to test, to establish by trial and error. The idea of Paul’s comment is not that in the renewing of the mind we are trying to find out what the will of God is. No, we will experience that will of God. The renewal of thought and the metamorphosis we undergo through it, that is the will of God! Then we’ll find out how good this one is. But also pleasing, i.e. pleasant. And perfect or mature. This is how we reach our goal!
