Romans 1:21 – God as GOD

Paul argues here that every person with understanding knows that God is there. If you see design, you cannot ignore the need for a Designer. Creation presupposes a Creator. Paul is not writing here that the world knows no god. Not even that they don’t glorify or thank Him. No, Paul writes that people are not glorifying and thanking God “AS GOD”. That’s the whole point. Perhaps religiously but not glorifying or thanking “God as GOD”. To understand that, we must first know what the word “God” means.
The Greek word for “God” is “theos”. That is derived from a verb that means “to place” or “to put”. Theos is the PLACER. To glorify and thank God as GOD means to recognize Him as the One who assigns everything a place. Not partly, not much, but everything. That’s where wisdom begins. Without this recognition, all reasoning is doomed to fail. The starting point is no good. “All things are out of Him, through Him and into Him. To Him be glory for the eons! “
