Galatians 4:6 – The Spirit of His Son
31-08-2022 - Posted by HansNow, seeing that you are sons, God delegates the spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying “Abba! Father!”
The word ‘spirit’ is a very broad concept in the Bible. In both Hebrew (ruach) and Greek (pneuma), it denotes an unseen force that moves. Such as ‘wind’ and ‘breath’. The power itself is not seen, but its effects are (John 3:8).
In Romans 8:9, Paul uses “the spirit of God” as a synonym of “the spirit of Christ.” These are of course not different spirits, they are different names for “one spirit”. It is called “the spirit of God” because it is God’s spirit that raised Jesus from the dead (Rom.8:11). And it is called “the spirit of Christ ” or “the spirit of his Son ” because He is the first to be vivified by this spirit (once for all time).
The spirit of God’s Son dwells in our hearts, and that puts us in the same relationship with God as the Son. So as sons. It is not as children but as sons that we address God as “Abba, Father”. Children are begotten and loved by the Father. Sons, on the other hand, love the Father themselves and are qualified to administer his property.
