Galatians 4:4 – Born under the law
24-05-2020 - Posted by Andre PietNow when the full time came, God delegates His Son, come of a woman, come under the law.
Our Bibles are divided into an Old and New Testament. “Testament” refers to “covenant”, although the word “testament” is a rather unfortunate expression for it. For GOD does indeed make covenants, but He makes no wills. After all, he never dies.
Anyway, our New Testament starts with Jesus’ birth. But that classification can easily give the wrong impression. For the new covenant did not begin with Jesus’ birth but with his death and resurrection (Heb. 13:20). When Jesus’ blood was shed, it was “the blood of the new covenant” (1 Cor. 11:25). That means that until then the old covenant was still in effect and Israel was “under the law”. Jesus was also subject to this and fulfilled the law to the end.
However, since the ransom was paid, the people have been redeemed. Officially no longer “under the law”. That is also the essence of the new covenant. When Israel recognizes her Savior, a life of grace and freedom begins! Besides, that truth applies to every human child.
