Ephesians 1:17 – Spirit of wisdom and revelation

…that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may be giving you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the realization of Him…

Paul does not pray to Jesus Christ but to “the GOD of our Lord, Jesus Christ”. Through Jesus Christ he comes to “the Father of glory”. “Glory” refers to the foregoing (:6,12,14) in which Paul had written extensively about the glory that GOD has ordained for us.

The same GOD who is the Father and Origin of all that glory is also the one who is able to give us sight and vision. Paul speaks of “a spirit of wisdom and revelation”. Because it is one thing to know what GOD has in store for us. But what matters is that we discover what the glory of this is!

The word for ‘wisdom’ has to do (as we saw earlier) with a ‘watchtower’. With being informed and having overview and view from there. It is in that position that we will discover new glory every time in “spirit of revelation”. There are so many more surprises waiting to be discovered…!
