Bible Verse: Colossians 3:3 – your life is hidden.

for you died, and your life is hid together with Christ in God.

Paul continues the line here. First: roused together with the Christ. Then: seeking and being disposed to that which is above. And now: the explanation why. For you died. That is not a feeling, but a fact. What we are according to the flesh is no longer determinative. We no longer reckon with that either.

Our life is hidden. Everything that determines us most deeply – who we are, where our life is, what our future perspective is – lies out of sight. That stands in stark contrast to what is coming. Then Christ will be manifested and His kingdom will be visible. But that is not the time in which we now live. Today it is precisely characteristic that everything connected with Him and with us is hidden.

Our life is where He is. Not on earth, not in the visible, but with God. That makes it by definition withdrawn from observation. It is also not our calling that we today make something visible of what God keeps hidden. Then it no longer frustrates us that the world sees nothing of it. Nor do we ourselves. On the contrary, it precisely confirms the truth that our life is hidden. And also sheltered. Safe and secure, “together with Christ in God.”
