Newsflash: temple emblem visible among military personnel

In recent times, many images have been circulating on the internet of Israeli military personnel showing that some wear an emblem referring to the so-called third temple. This is not an isolated incident. Tucker Carlson, an influential American commentator, also recently drew attention to this and stated that these are not exceptions, but expressions of a more widely shared ideal.

The idea of a rebuilding of the temple is clearly alive within religious Zionism. Notably, this expectation is not limited to a religious setting, but is also visible within the army.

That in itself does not say anything about political goals or motives. But it does show that the temple concept is genuinely alive and supported within certain layers of society. Not as an abstract symbol, but as a real expectation.

Scripture speaks of a renewed sacrificial service in the holy place and a temple that plays a role in it. That this motif is now coming to the fore so explicitly in our days is therefore significant.
