The good God, Creator of evil

On the forum, the message of the Goedbericht site is repeatedly opposed with the claim that if God were the Creator of evil, He could not possibly be a good God. People then forget, first of all, that it is God Himself who solemnly declares that He is the Creator of light and darkness, peace and evil (Isa. 45:7).

Secondly, they forget that a good God most certainly can plan and create evil (pain, hardship, death, sin, etc.) if it is necessary for His good purpose. A surgeon also uses a life-threatening knife and inflicts serious wounds on a patient. Yet the patient is grateful to the surgeon (provided he does his work properly…). The good goal, after all, justifies such harmful means.

The fact is that knowledge of good is not attainable apart from knowledge of evil. From the very first pages of the Bible, this is made clear to us. The tree in the garden was not called “the tree of the knowledge of good and evil” for nothing (Gen. 2:17). Awareness of God’s goodness, grace, love, and power requires a dark backdrop in order to shine.

Many are fixated on the darkness of evil and fail to realize that the “minus” that manifests itself horrifically in our world (evil) is in reality a “plus” that is not yet complete. Of course, God does not desire evil in and of itself. But it is necessary for the realization of His ultimate purpose.

Rest assured: if evil had not been absolutely necessary, the good God would most certainly not have given it a place in His creation. Thank and glorify this God on your bare knees that with Him NOTHING has ever gone wrong!
