Unitarian Universalism (II)

In response to my last weblog, someone rightly pointed out that what Marc Verhoeven writes about Unitarian Universalism is, in itself, correct. The Unitarian Universalists form a thoroughly liberal and progressive denomination in America, and what Marc Verhoeven writes pertains to that group. His reasoning goes as follows:
- Unitarians believe that there is one God, the Father, and Universalists believe that God is the Savior of all people;
- goedbericht.nl also believes (with others) both of these things;
- since the denomination that bears the name Unitarian Universalists is liberal, goedbericht.nl must therefore be liberal too.
I don’t need to explain that this is a textbook example of a fallacy. By the same logic, one could label the Reformed Political Party (SGP) of Bas van der Vlies as liberal, simply because they sail under the same Reformed banner as Professor Kuitert.
Such reasoning is not liberal but nonsensical.
