1 Timothy 5:8– Disowned the faith

For a believer, the idea of caring for those who belong to you is natural. In fact, that concept is the basis of our faith. After all, a believer is someone who recognizes that Jesus Christ is Lord, or Owner, and therefore takes care of everything that is entrusted to Him. The fact that something is property does not only mean that one has free disposal of it, but also that one is good for it. Just as God is good for His creation and therefore guarantees a good outcome. Doesn’t that express the essence of our faith?
It is for this reason that Paul assumes that if someone does not care for his own (read: immediate family) and especially for his household, he has denied the faith. No discussion about it. Period. Even in a world that does not want to know about God, it is only logical for most people to care for relatives and housemates. People also expect that from each other. How much more can that be expected of a believer?!
