1 Timothy 1:1 – According to the injunction of God

Before us, there is a new letter to be discussed. Verse by verse and often phrase by phrase, we will discover what Paul recorded when he wrote a letter to his co-worker Timothy. Not simply or in a personal capacity, but as an apostle, i.e. as a “delegate of Christ Jesus”. Because what Paul has to say carries the authority of the risen and glorified Christ by whom he was personally called. Paul spoke with His authority.
Moreover, it was also “according to the injunction of God” that Paul acted in this way (cf. (Rom.16:26; Tit.1:3). He is not only entitled to speak with authority, he must also speak accordingly. It is not his own choice and he certainly did not seek it himself. Paul speaks and writes “according to the injunction of God our Savior”. This addition also indicates in one stroke of the pen what God commands Paul to make known. God wills that all mankind be saved (1 Tim. 2:4). And therefore, as we will see later, He is also the “Savior of all mankind and especially of believers” (1 Tim. 4:10). What a good news! It is a message of universal hope in Christ Jesus.
