Isaiah 9:7 – The throne of David

In the days around Christmas, the preceding verse 6 is often quoted. “For a Boy, He is born to us…”. Strangely enough, the above verse is much less known. But hey, what can theology do with it? The text speaks of a future for Israel and Jerusalem, “the city of the great King”. Yes, here on earth. Concrete and identifiable. In the Middle East. It is hardly conceivable that a region so long characterized by war and conflict will become the center of world peace. Of real, lasting peace.
“The throne of David” has been vacant, empty, for 2500 years. But the dynasty will be restored. In a little while, the still hidden Prince will arrive and establish his kingdom. Literally. Not only over Israel but also over all nations.
No human hand is involved in the realization of all this. Thank God! “The zeal of YAHWEH of hosts will achieve this.” And so success is assured!
