Romans 5:7,8 – human and Divine love

12-01-2021 - Posted by Andre Piet

For hardly for the sake of a just man will anyone be dying: for ,for the sake of a good man perhaps someone may even be daring to die, yet God is commending this love of His to us, seeing that, while we are still sinners, Christ died for our sakes.

What makes us so sure of the expectation? The love of GOD that has been poured out in our hearts (: 5). In other words: the grandiose outcome is based on the fact that the one GOD loves us (abundantly). And how are we so sure of GOD’S love? Because Christ, who was raised from the dead by GOD in our behalf (4:25), thus died for the irreverent (: 6). Do you see the connection? Christ was resurrected to give Life to mankind who killed him on the cross. So he died for the irreverent.

Here and there one could still find among people someone who is willing to die for a (humanly speaking) “just man”. For example for someone who has shown goodness. Although rare, it does happen every now and then. But how different and transcendent is GOD’S love! Paul says, while we were weak, wicked, and sinners, Christ died for us. This is the proof of GOD’S love (= agape). Unconditional, undeserved and limitless!
