Romans 1:26 – The natural use
26-08-2020 - Posted by Andre PietTherefore God gives them over to dishonorable passions. For their females, besides, alter the natural use into that which is beside nature.
In these verses, Paul argues that there is a direct link between the Creator-creation relationship and male-female. Where the view of the Creator disappears, the view of the man (and the masculine) also disappears. The logic behind this is very simple: the man carries the image of GOD, as Creator (1 Cor.11: 7). As the woman in turn is a type of creation (Rom. 8:22).
The first thing Paul mentions to illustrate “dishonorable passions” are women replacing “natural use.” He is referring to women who exchange sexual intercourse with men to “which is besides nature”. Usually this is understood as women entering into a lesbian relationship. This is doubtful, because if “natural use” refers to sexual intercourse, then it is difficult to apply to women among themselves. More likely, Paul here (as in Lev. 18:23) is referring to bestiality: women who have intercourse with an animal. Indeed, that is perverted
“The natural use” is as GOD intended. Why? Only in this way can new life be created!
