1 John 4:18 –  No fear

Fear is not in love, but perfect love is casting out fear…

The first time we read in Scripture about fear is when man had eaten of the forbidden fruit in the garden. “I heard the sound of You walking in the garden and I was fearful …” (Gen.3: 10). This fear became the mother of so many other fears (Greek: phobos = phobia). Fear of the future, fear of getting sick, fear of losing something precious, or fear of… fill it up. We have no real control over all such matters and we are deeply afraid that God either does not want good with us or is unable to realize it.

There is one ultimate antidote to this fear: perfect love. That, of course, is not our love for GOD but his love for us (4: 16,19). Love He showed when He made His Son die for this world. GOD loves all of his creatures, unconditionally.

When I realize that He who controls everything is for me, what can be against me? Then there is no other way: all is working together for the good! It is that love that casts out fear.
