Isaiah 43:11 – No Saviour apart from Me
24-04-2020 - Posted by Andre PietI, I am Yahweh, And there is no Saviour apart from Me.
At first glance, this text could pose difficult questions. For are not judges like Ehud, Samgar, Gideon and Samson all called ‘saviours’ (3:15, 31, 6:37; 13: 5)? But are there any saviours outside YAHWEH? Certainly not, we must remember that in all such cases it was YAHWEH who gave these men as saviour. It was YAHWEH who delivered through these men.
There is one name in particular that reminds us of this truth: JESUS. Because the name ‘Jesus’ (in Hebrew: Jehoshua) means: YAHWEH delivers (or saves). It is through Jesus that YAHWEH proves to be the Saviour. Or as Judas ends his letter in praise: “To the only God, our Saviour, through Jesus Christ, our Lord, be glory …”. It is precisely in the name of Jesus that it comes to light that it is not about Jesus himself, but about the GOD whose image he is.
It is in the name of Jesus that every knee will bend and every tongue will confess that JESUS is Lord (Phil. 2:11)! But to whose credit is that? Of his own? No, it says “… to the glory of GOD the Father”!
