1 Corinthians 10:5 – strew along in the wilderness

All of Israel were under the cloud, all passed through the sea, all received the same spiritual food and drink. More than enough privileges. And still, Paul says: “God had in the majority of them no delight”. That is rather an understatement, for only two people of the entire people reached the promised land. Joshua and Caleb. All others died in the desert.
But did you know that from the exodus from Egypt until the mountain Sinai (= fifty days) never was mentioned that an Israelite died? Misbehaviours enough, but not one of them were strewn along. Isn’t that remarkable?
All changed at one time from the bottom of the mountain Sinai where the people swore (Exodus 19: 8): “All that what Yahweh speaks we will do!” Hence Israel placed itself on the bottom of own justice. So far, the people knew since Abraham (Galatians 3: 17) only GOD’s promise, who spoke: “I shall… I shall… I shall!”. A human can stand on it and beware that he should not be falling (compare 1 Corinthians 10: 12). If I expect, however, justice from the law (myself), I fall out of grace (Galatians 5: 4).
