1 Corinthians 9:27 – absolute concentration

but I am belaboring my body and leading it into slavery, lest somehow, when heralding to others, I myself may become disqualified.

The true athlete has only one purpose and that’s winning. All what the body demands, is made subordinate in the trainings and particularly during games. Delivering a peak performance means: suffering. Waiving pleasure, the body is completely subordinated to that one purpose.

This mindset of an athlete, that is 100% focussed on the purpose, is Paul’s mindset. For only one thing counts for him: preaching the evangel and comply with it. If the Evangel is indeed the only truth that counts, how incredible is the preacher who doesn’t completely comply with it?

“Walk your talk”. If one thing could disqualify a preacher, it’s not doing what he’s others telling to do. How could someone’s message give direction to others, if he himself doesn’t go that direction? Take care that walk and talk are one. That’s integer.
