Ephesians 5:2 – Be walking in love

Become then imitators of God, as beloved children and be walking in love, according as Christ also loves you…

Love touches the meaning of our existence. Logical, because it is the nature of GOD who is love (1 John4: 8,16). It is also one of the most misunderstood and degraded concepts.

The word for love is ‘agapé’ in Greek and differs from ‘eros’ (> eroticism) and ‘phileo’ (affection). ‘Agapé’ is the love of a father and mother for their child (1 Joh 3:1). That love is not based on merit or on attractiveness but on an inseparable and unconditional untiy. Because whatever your child does, it is and remains your child. Agapé love is unconditional and that characterizes the love of GOD. Agapé love is not based on emotions. It has nothing to do with Valentine’s day, roses and candlelight dinner. There is nothing wrong with such feelings, but they come and go again. Agapé love, on the other hand, is never lapsing (1 Cor. 13:8)!

GOD loves all his creatures. Why? Because it is his creation, “work of his hands”. He can’t let that go. This love was proven on the cross of Calvary. Even if the world nails his Son to the wood, still His love is undiminished!
