Romans 3:2 – They were entrusted with the oracles of God

What then, is the prerogative of the Jew, or what the benefit of circumcision? Much in every manner. For first, indeed, that they were entrusted with the oracles of God. 

Of all the privileges given to the Jew (= circumcision), number one is the fact that they are entrusted with the words of GOD. Chosen to receive and pass on those words. The land of Israel is called “the navel of the earth” (Ezek. 38:12) and the idea behind it is that the land is the center of the world and a crossroads of three continents. But above all, through this land and people, as through an umbilical cord, the words of GOD come to the nations.

The collected Scriptures, as the recorded words of GOD, have come about under the control of the Jewish people. This applies to the Hebrew Bible but also to the “New Testament”. Including the message that is for the nations for today. Those letters were also written by a Jew, Paul (Acts 21:39).

We see a beautiful picture of this phenomenon in the oasis of Elim (Ex. 15:27). There were twelve springs of water and seventy palm trees. Twelve springs (Israel) provide the seventy palm trees (the number of the nations) with living water!
