Demanding on Sunday…

On the weblog of my cousin Hartman Out, I read the following comment:

Both Roman Catholics and Protestants have never understood the joy of the first day of the week nor placed it in sound theological frameworks. To the child’s question on Sunday whether it may have an ice cream, the thoroughly upright Protestant says: “No, because today is Sunday and we don’t make other people work on the Lord’s day.” The cheerful Roman Catholic will of course agree to the request and say: “Yes, here’s some money, go and buy one.” Both answers are wrong. Both answers proclaim a half-truth and therefore a whole lie. The only correct answer is: “No, you may not have one (1) ice cream today, but because it’s Sunday, I’ll give you two (2), with an extra serving of whipped cream and chocolate or whatever you want!”

And that’s exactly right!
