‘Roeper’ hits the nail on the head

In this month’s issue of ‘Uitdaging’ (Dutch Christian magazine) I read the column by ‘Roeper’. In it, he addresses the reaction of Christians to a disaster like the one in Southeast Asia (Tsunami). “In the face of great disasters, Christians seem to be ashamed of God.” He hits the nail on the head when he writes a bit further:
“Theologians, too, stuttered. Apparently, it’s their profession to arrogantly and condescendingly demolish Biblical answers discovered by believers. Especially for the court suppliers—the Ter Linden brothers in that philosophical guild—any certainty is too simplistic. Any believing answer ‘too easy.’ Looks sophisticated, but it’s sad. As tragic as the fact that Dutch people sent in search of God by the EO (Dutch Evangelical Broadcasting Company) never get a clear answer to the recurring logical key question: Why does God allow such misery? It’s consistently dodged with empty talk…”
Further on in ‘Uitdaging’, there was another piece about a certain Joshua Brown under the headline:
‘If God can save me, He can save anyone’
That’s something they at ‘Uitdaging’ should think through a bit more carefully…
