Fijnvandraat on Ouweneel

Today I read a review on the website of Brethren brother J.G. Fijnvandraat of Ouweneel’s book Heal the Sick. Ouweneel and Fijnvandraat used to be close allies and were often mentioned in the same breath. That time has passed. Fijnvandraat delivers sharp criticism of Ouweneel and his book. He even calls “the tendency” of Ouweneel’s book “harmful.” Below is a quote:
“The fact that he (=Ouweneel) allowed Joshua to lay hands on him had already been told to me earlier, but I did not want to believe it. However, here it is in black and white. I shudder at that, and because of that. Suppose that Joshua actually isn’t sound and he has the wrong connections (or are we not allowed to suppose that and must simply assume that all is well with the man?), what then are—or could be—the consequences of this laying on of hands? What dynamis could possibly be transferred here? Ouweneel often speaks of a service or prayer of deliverance. Could it be that he himself is in need of deliverance?”
In the meantime, it turns out that Ouweneel himself has also taken (some) distance from the previously praised T.B. Joshua. Fijnvandraat writes:
“Shortly before I was to begin editing my preliminary notes, I came across, on July 8, 2004, a message published in Gemeentenieuws, the contact bulletin of the ‘Vergadering van Gelovigen’ in Utrecht. It contains a report of a statement that was read to the believers on March 7. Among other things, it includes a personal announcement from Willem J. Ouweneel. In it, he indicates that he has certain objections to the person and ministry of T.B. Joshua, although these do not go nearly as far as the objections expressed in some books. He further states that he no longer has any contact with Nigeria and that he has no plans to visit T.B. Joshua’s church.”
