5. All things through the Lord Jesus Christ; 1 Corinthians 8:6
18-04-2025 - Posted by Geert-JanJohn emphatically declares that Jesus Christ, as God’s Word, brought about the entire creation. It is important to keep this clearly in view. Scripture does not acknowledge two Creators: God the Father and “the Son.” No, there is one Creator who created all things through His Word. And since Jesus Christ is the (incarnate) Word of God, “through Him” all things came into being.
Not only John, but also the apostle Paul confirms this truth in his letters, as in the following verse from the first letter to the Corinthians:
… yet to us there is one God, the Father, of whom [are] the all things, and we to Him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom [are] the all things, and we through Him.
1Corinthians 8:6 (YLT)
Two prepositions are used respectively for God the Father and for the Lord Jesus Christ. All things are of God the Father and through the Lord Jesus Christ. God the Father is the Source and the One from whose mouth all things proceeded. The Lord Jesus Christ, on the other hand, is the (incarnate) Word of God through whom all was created.
Paul’s presentation of matters here aligns seamlessly with the prologue in John 1.
