Colossians 2: 2 – Heart and mind
10-12-2024 - Posted by Hans… that their hearts may be consoled, being united in love, and to all the riches of the assurance of understanding, unto a realization of the secret of the God and Father, of Christ, in Whom all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are concealed.
This letter is aimed at encouraging hearts but also at “the assurance of understanding”. That is what appreciating “the secret of the God” accomplishes. It satisfies the great questions of both the heart and the head. This secret reveals the transcendent love that is high as the sky and wide as the sea. But it also reveals “all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge” that philosophers have searched for in vain. It provides the solution to the riddle of the universe, both the beginning and the end, the creation and the conciliation!
“The secret of God” here is not (primarily) what God has revealed through Paul (1:25-27), but above all who he has revealed. Not something, but Someone. A man, Christ, the Icon of the invisible God! The One who is now, hidden, seated at the right hand of God. Who on earth knows of the triumph He has achieved? But the day is coming and is near when everyone will know and see!
