Colossians 1: 16 – All is created for Him

… all is created through Him and for Him…

The Son is the “firstborn of every creature” and that means that He occupies the highest place among all. ‘The all’ is created in Him so that everything is within His domain. But God has also created it through Him: after all, He is the Word made flesh through which everything once came into being. The third preposition that explains why the Son is “the firstborn of every creature”: to (Gr. eis = lit. to-in).

That all things were created for the Son indicates the purpose of creation. All things were created for Him. Everything is from God who is the Designer and Creator and the Son is not only the medium through which God created ’the all’ but also the destiny of ’the all’. In Ephesians 1:9,10 Paul writes that God purposed according to his delight to head up ‘all’ in the Christ until the fullness of the ages. And Ephesians 3:11 confirms this by declaring that God has made his plan of eons “in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Everything is designed for “the Son of God’s love”. When every creature will be acclaiming Him as Lord, then God’s ultimate purpose has been achieved (Phil. 2:9-11)!
