Titus 1:15 Clean in thinking and conscience

Paul responds to those who turn away from the truth by heeding to Jewish myths and precepts of men. Believers of the nations were burdened with regulations that considered anything and everything non-kosher. All kinds of food were forbidden and it was “You should not be touching, nor yet tasting, nor yet coming into contact” (Col. 2:21). Paul’s response is short and concise: everything is clean to the clean.
Everything that the clean take in is clean, because they do not go by the “prescriptions of men”, but by the judgment of God. And what He declares clean, a man would not consider unholy (Acts 11:9). The “vain talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision” (1:10) were infected and tainted with morbid teachings.
True purity begins within: in the mind and in the conscience. A clear conscience is a co-science (conscience, Gr. “sun-eidesis”): the knowledge that God shares with man. A clear conscience also directs the mind so that it knows truth from falsehood. The truth loves the evidence while the lie fears the evidence.
