Philippians 4:7 The peace of God
22-03-2023 - Posted by Hans… in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, that is superior to every frame of mind, shall be garrisoning your hearts and your apprehensions in Christ Jesus.
Verse 7 describes the effect of “prayer and petition with thanksgiving.” As noted earlier, this thanksgiving should not be understood as a separate item , but as a quality of “prayer and petition . ” In all that we pray for, we would thank in advance that He is able to give it to us. And if He doesn’t give it, it’s because He has something much better in store for us. When we pray like this, we are really putting our trust in “God as GOD” (Rom. 1:21).
There is no promise here that through “prayer and petition” we will receive everything we pray for. Our prayers are not to change God’s mind. As if we should know better than He does. Prayer does not change God, but the prayer! Our thinking is changed. When we pray with thanksgiving we become aware that GOD’S way is always the best . See there the peace that GOD Himself has. A peace that transcends all thought!
