Ephesians 5:20 – Thróugh the Son, to God
29-08-2018 - Posted by Andre Piet… giving thanks always about all things, in the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ, to our God and Father.
Before, we paid attention to the “giving thanks about all things”. But we should not miss out on how we pray. Paul writes that we would thank “GOD the Father in the name of our Lord, namely Jesus Christ. We come across this way of formulating time and time again in the epistles. We pray to the one GOD, the Father. So we do not pray to the Son. No the Son is the one through whom we approach GOD.
Scripture teaches emphatically: “there is one GOD and one mediator of GOD and men, namely the man Christ Jesus” (1Tim. 2:5). GOD himself is invisible. But He expresses himself in his icon, his image: Christ Jesus. God comes to man through him. In him we see GOD. As a mediator he represents GOD to the people.
But as a mediator he also represents the people to GOD. He is in the heavenly sanctuary as High Priest who carries his own on his shoulders and chest. In that recognition we approach GOD, the Father!
