Ephesians 1:2 – God, our Father

…Grace to you and peace from God, our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ…

The one GOD as we get to know Him in the Scriptures is the Father. We encounter the expression “God, the Father” dozens of times in Scripture. Jesus Christ spoke to his Father as “the only true God” (John 17:3). And Paul wrote: “For us there is one God, the Father” (1 Cor.8:6). That is why we never read about ‘God the Son’. It is always: “the Son of God”.

The creed of “one God, the Father” is the first of all Biblical truths (Mar. 12: 31,32). There is no other God than He alone. Every doctrine that does not depart from here makes a false start.

Grace and peace come from God our Father. But He is also the God and Father of the Lord Jesus Christ (1:3). That is the man Jesus (=YAHWEH saves) in his glorification. A glory that he received when God raised him from the dead as the firstfruits (Acts 2:36). It is this historical fact, which is the source of all grace and peace. And all of creation will share in it. Death has been overcome and will be nullified by making all alive!
