Romans 8:10 –Spirit is Life
26-05-2021 - Posted by HansNow if Christ is in you, the body, indeed is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is life because of righteousness.
The phrase “if Christ is in you” may seem a bit strange. After all, Christ is seated at God’s right hand (8:34) and that is above and of course not in us. However, that is physical, while in this verse Paul is referring to “the spirit of Christ” who dwells in us. Through the Word that has entered our hearts through our ears, Christ dwells in us spiritually.
Our body is still outside the reality of the new creation, It is dead because of sin. Only in the resurrection does “the deliverance of our body” (8:23) take place. Not before. It is now only according to the spirit that we know life. The spirit of Christ in us is life, for it is the spirit of the resurrected Christ.
God has done justice to his promise by raising Christ from the dead and hence “because of righteousness”. For the manifestation of God’s righteousness (3:21) means that He fulfills that which the law and the prophets testified (3:21). He lives up to what He says. Life triumphs!
