Romans 6:5 – Planted together

We are reckoned to be one with Christ. We have “become planted together in the likeness of his death”. “Became planted together”, so as if fused with him. “… In the likeness of his death,” that is, to have died as he died. All of which means that if I want to know who I am in GOD’S eyes, I must look to Christ.
When Christ died, then I died. As if fused with him and therefore also sharing in his fate. So when he was raised, I was raised with him. That is how God sees me now and that determines who I am. Alive beyond death. A new creation!
Who I am is not determined by what others think of me. Or as I judge or feel myself. That is quicksand and never gives solidity. Also decisive for my identity is not my past, but the future. That is why it is only up to my Creator to tell who I am. Because only He knows and determines my destiny. Thus I can reckon and walk. “In newness of life”!
