Romans 4:20 – invigorated in faith

…yet the promise of God was not doubted in unbelief, but he was invigorated by faith, giving glory to God, being fully assured also, that, what He has promised, He is able to do also.

Once ninety-nine years old, Abraham had determined that not only his wife Sarah, but also himself, was already “dead” in terms of reproductive power. What else could they do? The answer is: nothing! But where man reaches his ceiling, GOD’S floor begins. Abraham and Sarah were not commissioned by, but received a promise from GOD. That means that they were not to do anything, but that GOD himself was the guarantor of the fulfillment of his foretelling.

Abraham and Sarah were realistic enough to recognize their inability. No problem, because if GOD promises them a child, their own inability is completely irrelevant. Would anything be too hard for YAHWEH (Gen. 18:14)? It was precisely in this realization that Abraham “was invigorated in faith.” He knew: I am weak, but GOD is (already) powerful! That faith restored Abraham’s potential: what was dead was resurrected. Literally!

Nothing is as relaxed and powerful as the realization that GOD expects nothing from me, but everything from Himself!
