Romans 3:28 – Justified in faith

30-11-2020 - Posted by Andre Piet

For we are reckoning a man to be justified by faith apart from works of law.

Justification by faith is one of the central truths in Paul’s epistles. It is not my achievements or merits that make GOD count me as a righteous one. No, GOD counts faith for righteousness. Indeed faith in what He promises unconditionally. Just like Abram who will be presented by Paul in the next chapter. Abram received the promise from GOD, unconditionally, that his progeny would be like the stars of heaven. Humanly speaking, Abram and his wife Sarah were both incapable of having children. But Abram is also not ordered to do so. GOD does not demand anything from him, but Abram simply receives the promise that he would be the father of a large offspring.

When GOD makes an unconditional promise, He is indebted to fulfill it. The revelation of GOD’S righteousness is not about our debt but the debt of GOD. A promise is a debt. And when GOD delivers what He promises, it is “the revelation of His righteousness.”

The one who trusts in the unconditional promise of GOD is counted by GOD as a righteous one. Because then GOD gets all the credit!
