Romans 1:32 – Deserving of death

02-09-2020 - Posted by Andre Piet

…those who, recognizing the just statute of God, that those committing such things are deserving of death, not only are doing them, but are endorsing, also, those who are committing them.

Here we are at the end of Paul’s description of man who has become detached from GOD. Humanity is supposed to know about the Creator, because He allows Himself to be recognized and known in His creation. Man knows this deep in his heart (“conscience”; 2:15) and realizes how much his practices conflict with it. All this cannot exist in the light of GOD. After all, had not Paul also established that all these practices are precisely the result of a walk in darkness (: 21)? In addition, people not only do these things themselves, but also promote them to others.

Such practices are “deserving of death”. This will become apparent in the future “day of indignation” upon the nations then living. But also more than a thousand years later by GOD’S righteous judgment over the dead at “the great white throne (2: 5; Rev.20: 11). A just death sentence will be passed and executed. Death plays an essential role in the process of rectification. Fortunately, death never has the last word with GOD!
