Romans 11:26 – Out of Zion

20-10-2021 - Posted by Hans

And thus all Israel shall be saved, according as it is written, Arriving out of Zion shall be the Rescuer. He will be turning away irreverence from Jacob.

When the Lord ascended to heaven from the Mount of Olives, it was immediately given to those left behind to understand that the one whom they saw departing would return in the same manner. And from Zechariah 14 we know that this will even be in the same location as well. “His feet shall stand in that day on the Mount of Olives which is before Jerusalem” (Zech.14:4). The Mount of Olives will split in half and an escape route will be created for the survivors to the desert. And in Bozra (near Petra), in the region of Edom, the Lord will join them and gather Israel from all over the world (Micah 2:12,13).

In the above verse, Paul refers to Isaiah 59:20 where we read that the Redeemer (= the Rescuer) will come “to Zion”. While Paul speaks of “out of Zion”. That is not contradictory because first He comes “to Zion” and then He will depart “out of Zion” to Bozra.

Significantly, Bozra means ‘sheepfold’. For there the flock of Israel will be gathered, and the Shepherd will make himself known. To then proceed from Bozra (via “The Kings Highway”!) towards the Promised Land” (Isa.63:1)!
