1Corinthians 2:11 – Who knows God like no other?

04-12-2018 - Posted by Andre Piet

For is any of humanity acquainted with that which is human except the spirit of humanity which is in it? Thus also, that which is of God no one knows, except the spirit of God.

Like no other, GOD’s mind is able to know what lives in GOD. The argument that Paul gives for that is surprisingly simple. Paul compares the human spirit with God’s spirit. Of all people, only my own spirit is capable of knowing my deepest thoughts and motives. Well, Paul says, with God’s spirit it is no different.

Paul did not know anything like a doctrine of the trinity in which GOD’s spirit is a distinct person of GOD himself. I can distinguish my spirit from myself ( and by speaking of “my spirit” I actually do that too), but it is not a separate personality. GOD’s spirit is personal, just as my spirit is personal, but it is not a separate person.

GOD’s spirit is the driving force behind those who gave us the inspired Scriptures. And because GOD’s spirit also knows the depths of GOD, the Scriptures also make us familiar with his secrets. Never can we get to know GOD better than through the Scriptures!
