1Corinthians 2:12 – That we may be perceiving…

Now we obtained, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God, that we may be perceiving that which is being graciously given to us by God.

The concept of “spirit” is very broad in Scripture. It stands for everything that is invisible. Also ‘breath’ and ‘wind’ fall under this heading. The “spirit of the world” here, is synonymous with what was previously called “the wisdom of the world” (1:20).

Through the evangel that Paul was allowed to herald, the Corinthians had “obtained the spirit out of GOD”. This spirit is, unlike that of the world, the wisdom of GOD that was previously hidden (2:7). “The spirit which is of God” includes all that GOD has to reveal. This spirit is not a vague feeling. The Corinthians had received this spirit in order that they might know…Feelings, ah, they are constantly subject of change. But the things we know are like a tower of strength. You can stand on it and build on it.

We would know the things that are graciously given to us by GOD as a favor. That gives incredible joy. That is also what grace means: joy for free. Because it is so rock solid!
