1 Timothy 6:13 – the GOD Who is vivifying all

I am charging you in the sight of God, Who is vivifying all and of Jesus Christ…

Solemnly and with great emphasis, GOD is described here as the One “who is vivfying all.” It determines us to the universal purpose that GOD has purposed in Christ Jesus. In Adam all men die, Paul writes in 1Corinthians 15:22. He uses a present tense form: in Adam all people are dying. Busy dying. We are mortals. It is the reality that we as humanity face every day. The earth is one big graveyard of all previous generations. It is precisely against this inescapably dark background that the dazzling light shines of the message that GOD gives life to all.

In the same 1Corinthians 15:22 we read: “As in Adam all are dying, thus also in Christ shall all be vivified.” The vivification in Christ is as inevitable as the dying in Adam. And also equally comprehensive. Certainly, this vivification takes place in phases: “each in his own order”. To this day, Christ is the only one “who alone has immortality” (1 Tim. 6:16). The First Fruit and with it the guarantee that the rest will follow irrevocably. The one God, Creator of heaven and earth, is “the living God”: He abolishes death by vivifying everyone!
